The French Catholic striker Olivier Giroud has scored a goal!

Not on the football field, but he has effectively sent a message in a direct and personal tone to young people and French Christians ahead of a major Church event.

 

Olivier Giroud’s invitation to the Catholics of France

On October 29, through a short video posted on the Instagram channel of the Congrès Mission, the former AC Milan and French national team champion—now playing for Lille—invited people to take part in the Congress that was held from November 7 to 9, 2025 in Paris.

Giroud described the Congress as “the annual gathering of the living forces of the Church, for moments of prayer, sharing, and commitment.”

He then concluded his message with a strong encouragement: “Christ is waiting for you!”

The Catholic Olivier Giroud

It’s not the first time the French striker has used his popularity in service of the Church.

Already during the 2023 World Youth Day in Lisbon, Giroud had addressed about 40,000 young French people, encouraging them to live their faith with courage and openness: “And if Jesus were standing in front of you right now, what would you say to Him?” he asked, urging them to become “signs of hope” and to embrace their faith.

Giroud, married and father of four, is also known for his commitment to persecuted Christians and for having donated the proceeds from an auctioned jersey to support Armenian associations.

Always far from scandals and worldly excess, Olivier Giroud has consistently been a role model both on and off the field for many of his teammates.

Once again, with a simple yet genuine gesture, he has shown the courage to step forward and proclaim what he believes in.
