When vanity does not prevail and the most beautiful in the world take religious vows.

In recent years, remarkable stories have emerged of young people who, after walking runways, posing for photo shoots, and taking part in beauty pageants, have chosen a completely different path: a religious vocation.

These are personal journeys very different from one another, yet they share one central point: the discovery of a faith capable of changing one’s life and filling it with a meaning that aesthetic beauty, flashing cameras, and the world’s admiring comments cannot offer.

 

The most beautiful nun in the world

One of the most well-known testimonies at this time is Kamila Rodrigues Cardoso.

A former Brazilian model, she took part in national competitions such as Miss Brazil and Miss Universe, but at just 18 years old, after a difficult period marked by her father’s death and personal struggles, she reassessed her priorities in life and chose to enter the convent.

Today she is known as Sister Eva and continues to communicate with thousands of young people through social media, not denying her past but showing how a path of beauty and image can also lead to an authentic consecrated life.

“Giving the best of oneself to Jesus”, she says, also means taking care of one’s appearance without losing spirituality.

The Mother Superior allows her to use cosmetic products, as long as they enhance her natural beauty. A gift that enables her to reach many people, breaking down prejudices about the Church even in environments very distant from ecclesial contexts.

 

Edoardo, the most handsome man in Italy

There is also the Italian story of Edoardo Santini, crowned “the most handsome man in Italy” in 2019.

He had a promising artistic career ahead of him: dance, acting, modeling. But despite growing up in an anticlerical family, “inside me there was always a struggle,” he stated. “In everything I did, I felt the need to find a deeper meaning in things.”

The enlightened agnosticism of his parents and discussions with an atheist teacher during the Covid period carved deeply within him, and in 2021 he met Father Alberto Ravagnani and his youth group “Fraternità”.

Together with two other priests and under the guidance of the Archbishop of Florence, Bishop Betori, he decided to further discern his vocation to the priesthood and asked to enter the seminary.

His story became public, reaching Italian television, where host Fiorello made use of a sensual photo of the young man. Comedian Luciana Littizzetto joked instead: “What a waste, such a handsome man becoming a priest.”

 

The influencer model enters the seminary

In Spain, there is the influencer model Pablo Garcia, 35 years old.

“For me, a radically different life is about to begin”, Garcia announced on social media, “in a few weeks I will enter the seminary. If God wills, one day I will become a priest.”

The influencer’s video was viewed by over two million users in 24 hours, receiving thousands of comments.

He did specify, however, that he would stop using social media, stepping away from the spotlight. “I don’t know if I’ll return,” he told his 650,000 followers, “but I ask you to pray for me.”

 

Miss Universe and faith

Just recently, the new Miss Universe was crowned: Fátima Bosch. Unlike the figures mentioned above, she has not embarked on a vocational path.

The 25-year-old model from Tabasco made international headlines recently after walking out of an event when she was called “stupid” by the director, who accused her of missing a sponsor-related photoshoot.

Interviewed by major media outlets, she surprised many by speaking openly about her faith, and by recounting on several occasions how her relationship with God has guided every step of her life.

 

Miss Germany and theology

Another well-known figure is Kira Geiss, Miss Germany 2023.

Unlike the traditional image of a beauty queen, Kira is an evangelical Christian and is studying theology at the Evangelische Missionsschule.

Faith, she explains, arrived in adolescence and opened up a new horizon: no longer just competition, aesthetics, or visibility, but the desire to build community, listen to young people, and serve others.

Kira continues to use the popularity earned in pageants, but she does so to spread positive messages of faith and social engagement.

 

It is always interesting to see how a vocation can take root even in worlds such as fashion and the realm of vanity, which seem so distant from faith.

Yet it is often there that many discover that the greatest beauty is not measured in the centimeters of a runway, but in the choice to give one’s life to God and to others.
