Everything came to light when Mitchell, together with his partner Logan Riley, posted a celebratory video marking the child’s first birthday, prompting an immediate response from Irish activist Derek Blighe, whose post has been viewed over 11 million times.

Users soon realised that Mitchell has been listed on the official Pennsylvania government registry of sex offenders since 2016.

The shocking truth is that a sexual predator can become a parent due to the lack of legal oversight in surrogacy arrangements.

The furious debate also highlights another issue: the gay couple reportedly used GoFundMe, a crowdfunding platform, to raise money for their “parenting journey.”

Some have described surrogacy as a lawless “industry” where money alone is enough to obtain a child, without a mother and even if one is a pedophile.

 

Attorney general intervenes in the case

Pro-life activists such as Lila Rose are calling for a total ban on surrogacy, describing it as a threat to children and an unethical marketplace.

Commentator Allie Beth Stuckey has noted that “sexual predators are free to adopt and buy children through surrogacy in the name of ‘LGBTQ rights’”

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has brought the case to the attention of Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday.

The latest update is that the attorney general told Newsweek a legislative action will be initiated to close the current legal loophole in Pennsylvania law, though he emphasised that existing legislation does not prevent the man from becoming a father.

This case increasingly highlights Italy’s foresight in criminalising surrogacy outright.
