shadows.\u201d The speech also focuses on family and migration.<\/i><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pope Leo<\/strong> did not hold back.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During his address a few hours ago to the <strong>Spanish Parliament<\/strong>, as part of the ongoing apostolic visit in Madrid, the Holy Father delivered a message with strong <strong>political impact<\/strong> to the government led by <mark><strong>Pedro S\u00e1nchez<\/strong><\/mark>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He directly intervened <strong>head-on<\/strong> in some of the most sensitive issues of Spanish and European public debate: abortion, family, end of life, education, and migration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The speech was much broader, and it is worth <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/leo-xiv\/en\/speeches\/2026\/giugno\/documents\/20260608-spagna-parlamento.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reading it in full<\/a><\/em><\/strong>; here we are only extracting a few passages.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>&#8220;An unjust society if it abandons the unborn child&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The most direct reference to the political context is linked to the <strong>recent reform<\/strong> promoted by S\u00e1nchez\u2019s government, which aims to enshrine the <strong>\u201cright to abortion\u201d<\/strong> in the Constitution itself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this context, reflecting on the <i>\u00abinviolable dignity of the human person\u00bb<\/i>, the Pope <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/leo-xiv\/en\/speeches\/2026\/giugno\/documents\/20260608-spagna-parlamento.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a><\/em><\/strong> to the Spanish parliamentarians that <i>\u00ab<strong>The defense of human life<\/strong> is a goal of civilization\u00bb<\/i> and explained that it <i>\u00abis neither a partisan issue nor a confessional interest\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Citing <strong>Pope Francis<\/strong>, Leo went on to say that social coexistence is threatened precisely by the \u201cthrowaway culture\u201d, and therefore <i>\u00abevery human life must be recognized and safeguarded <strong>from conception to its natural end<\/strong>, in every circumstance of its existence\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He then appealed <i>\u00abto those who bear the <strong>serious responsibility<\/strong> of legally structuring social coexistence\u00bb<\/i> so that life does not cease <i>\u00abto be recognized as a fundamental value\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To <strong>S\u00e1nchez<\/strong> and his government he therefore left this question: <i>\u00abCan a community that casts into the shadows the <strong>unborn child<\/strong>, the elderly, the sick, those who suffer in silence, or those who depend entirely on the care of others <strong>be called fully just<\/strong>?\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Stay society<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the speech was not limited to the beginning of life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Pontiff also addressed <strong>the role of the family<\/strong> as the fundamental cell of society.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In particular, he <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/leo-xiv\/en\/speeches\/2026\/giugno\/documents\/20260608-spagna-parlamento.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invited<\/a><\/em><\/strong> respect for <i>\u00abthe <strong>primary and inalienable right<\/strong> of parents to choose the type of education and formation to be given to their children, in accordance with their moral, cultural, and religious convictions\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Right not to emigrate<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A third central axis of the intervention was migration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pope <strong>Leo XIV<\/strong> <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/leo-xiv\/en\/speeches\/2026\/giugno\/documents\/20260608-spagna-parlamento.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recalled<\/a><\/em><\/strong> Europe\u2019s responsibility to ensure <strong>legal and safe pathways<\/strong> for migrants, while also acknowledging another principle: the right not to be forced to migrate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From this perspective, the Pontiff insisted <strong>against discrimination<\/strong> <i>\u00abethnic, religious, or linguistic\u00bb<\/i>, calling for the debate to <i>\u00abgo beyond the simple management of flows\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Pope\u2019s guidance is to <i>\u00aboffer safe and legal pathways, respectful reception, and real opportunities for integration, and to promote <strong>the right to remain<\/strong> in one\u2019s own land, working so that no one is forced to leave their home due to lack of peace, security, or dignified living conditions\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An appeal that he had <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uccronline.it\/2026\/04\/18\/il-papa-in-camerun-ricorda-il-diritto-a-non-emigrare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">already made<\/a><\/em><\/strong> last month during his
