Journalist Kate Mulvey<\/strong> is the latest feminist to say mea culpa: “I paid a very high price for my so-called liberation<\/strong>“. Meanwhile, anti-feminism<\/strong> is spreading among young people.<\/i><\/p>\n

Blame feminism, says Kate Mulvey<\/strong><\/mark>.<\/p>\n

63 years old, a journalist and radical activist, she declares herself alone and childless<\/strong> and blames the ideology to which she devoted herself for years for a fate that today appears to her as a profound defeat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“Feminism ruined me”<\/h2>\n

In a spare and direct account<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, Mulvey reflects on her life: <\/p>\n

\u00abI am convinced that the reason I keep booking a table for one at 63, instead of having found a partner, is because, as with many women of my generation, feminism ruined my love life<\/strong>\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Mulvey remembers her start in the women\u2019s liberation movement<\/strong> at a prestigious English university, when \u00abwe spent lunch breaks soaking up the feminist mantras<\/strong> of Germaine Greer and Betty Friedman: “Behave like men”, they shouted while burning bras and demonizing housework and the family\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Mulvey describes her disastrous romantic relationships<\/strong>, when she got angry at every kindness received from a man, even if it was a bouquet of flowers. She reaches \u00abdeep regret\u00bb<\/i> for the number of \u00abcasual flings\u00bb<\/i> she had that left her each time \u00abempty and used<\/strong>\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Yet feminists always encouraged “to have sex like a man”<\/strong> but this too, she writes, \u00abbackfired on us\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The greatest wound for women like Kate Mulvey, victims of feminism, seems to be precisely loneliness<\/strong> and the forced suppression of the maternal instinct<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Instead of guaranteeing power, she explained, \u00absecond-wave feminism made us believe that marriage and domestic life<\/strong> should be avoided like the plague and that men were enemies rather than partners\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n

She had always imagined her marriage, wonderful children but \u00abI paid a very high price<\/strong> for my so-called liberation\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Is something changing?<\/h2>\n

Today something is changing and in the United States and on TikTok the phenomenon of so-called “Tradwife”<\/strong> is spreading, driven by anti-feminist women who praise role distinction, motherhood<\/strong> and family life.<\/p>\n

Mulvey herself states that \u00abthe idea that women are different from men and that casual sex can be harmful to us is gaining ground<\/strong>\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n

As a reference she cites British journalist Louise Perry<\/strong>, author of the bestseller “The Case Against the Sexual Revolution”<\/i> (2022) in which she refutes arguments in favor of the sexual revolution<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In her latest book, “A New Guide to Sex in the 21st Century”<\/i> (2025), Perry shows with data in hand how casual sex, dating apps, pornography, the norm of premarital contraception and the normalization of sexual perversions put women at risk<\/strong>. She believes society would benefit from a return to traditional values.<\/p>\n

Neither Mulvey nor Perry, of course, claim a patriarchal society<\/strong> or a submission<\/strong> to men.<\/p>\n

Rather a valoriziation of the family where roles are traditionally understood, a society where motherhood<\/strong> is not opposed and where a woman can choose to favor the home and the family<\/strong> over a working career without being considered abnormal, submissive or neglectful.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Repentant feminists, also in Italy<\/h2>\n

Over the years we have given voice to these women, in 2022<\/a><\/em><\/strong> for example we talked about Candace Bushnell<\/strong>, author of the famous feminist program “Sex in the City”<\/i>. She too, same script: \u00abWe are all single women, childless<\/strong>. Before I didn’t think about it, now I feel lonely\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n

And what about writer Samantha Johnson<\/strong>? \u00abWhen I became a mother\u00bb<\/i>, she wrote<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, \u00abfeminism disappointed me<\/strong>. We preach to girls that there is no value in motherhood, we promote the professional career as a symbol of success completely de-valuing the contribution of parents at home. We must tell women how important it is to be mothers\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n

In Italy<\/strong> this awareness is still slow to arrive.<\/p>\n

We found it in a rare, stifled lament from Rossana Rossanda<\/strong>, communist founder of Il Manifesto<\/i>, when she admitted<\/a><\/em><\/strong>: \u00abHaving had children? Now I would feel less alone and above all I would have the perception of having passed something of myself on\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n

In one of the few unmasked moments, radical leader Emma Bonino<\/strong> also expressed similar feelings.<\/p>\n

\u00abI have never been a wife, never a mother\u00bb<\/i>, she confessed<\/a><\/em><\/strong> the radical leader. \u00abI have always been alone<\/strong>. Alone intimately, politically. I cry a lot, alone. On this sofa. I curl up here and cry\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The poet Alda Merini<\/strong> had already understood everything, in 2008 she was recruited without her knowledge by feminists in an appeal against the “obscurantist” Pope and she denounced it<\/a><\/em><\/strong> in an interview with Lucia Bellaspiga, adding: <\/p>\n

\n

\u00abA woman’s true right<\/strong> is that of motherhood<\/strong>: the child is the greatest act of love and its mystery remains intact. It is blasphemy to deny all this in the name of a feminism<\/strong> that is the opposite of being female, in the highest sense of the term\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
