The recent Catholic conversion of Carrie Prejean Boller<\/strong>, former Miss California. Originally from a Protestant background, she delved deeper into her faith and discovered that the early Church<\/strong> was different\u2014it was Catholic.<\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The former Miss California<\/strong> received Catholic baptism at Easter 2025.<\/p>\n

Her name is Carrie Prejean Boller<\/strong><\/mark> and a few weeks ago she publicly shared for the first time the reason for her conversion<\/strong>, a truly interesting journey. She called it \u201cthe greatest blessing of life\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Carrie Prejean Boller and the revocation of Miss California<\/h2>\n

Carrie had always been an evangelical Christian<\/strong> and her case became international in 2009<\/strong> when, during the Miss USA final, she was asked what she thought<\/strong> about the duty of all states to legalize marriage between people of the same sex.<\/p>\n

The young model dared to state that she considered marriage<\/strong> to be the union between a man and a woman but the answer sparked furious controversy to the point that her title as Miss California USA was even revoked<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Raised Protestant<\/h2>\n

But this is not what Carrie spoke about on the podcast<\/a><\/em><\/strong> with Lila Rose.<\/p>\n

Rather she told of her Catholic mother<\/strong> and her Southern Baptist father<\/strong>, who prevailed in the children’s religious upbringing. Then the parents divorced and the mother ended up becoming Protestant herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was very involved in Bible studies, in the Scriptures\u201d<\/i>, but after Covid<\/strong> something changed. \u201cI asked myself: \u2018Why am I Protestant? What am I protesting?<\/strong>\u2019 And I realized: I am protesting against the Catholic Church. So I began to study.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

The research started with Martin Luther<\/strong>, discovering that he believed that Mary was the Mother of God<\/strong> while Protestants today refuse to do so.<\/p>\n

And then the teaching of the early Church: \u201cDid a \u2018Church of the origins\u2019 really exist or did my faith only arise in the 16th century<\/strong>, with the Protestant Reformation? Why are there 40,000 different denominations?\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Reflections that led the former Miss California to realize<\/strong> that she was moving from one Protestant church to another and each of them \u201chad, in fact, its own little \u2018magisterium\u2019: every pastor acted like a little pope<\/strong>, interpreted Scripture in his own way, decided doctrines, eschatology, theological principles\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Another traumatic experience was attending prosperity gospel churches<\/strong>, known for being centered on wellbeing, health and wealth. She took her father, who had cancer, to a “healing night” and \u201cit was terrible\u201d<\/i>, she recalls. \u201cThey laid hands on him saying: \u2018You are healed\u2019<\/strong>, and he stopped wanting to have the operation that could have saved his life.\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The more she got involved with Protestant reality the more \u201cinside me grew the conviction that there had to be something deeper<\/strong>\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The study of the early Church<\/h2>\n

Carrie also made the “mistake” of studying the early Church<\/strong>, noticing that \u201ceverything was centered on the Eucharist<\/strong>. It was the heart of the Church. There was one Church, united, beautiful\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Yet she only sporadically received the Eucharist<\/strong> in one of the churches she attended and, when it happened, \u201cit was just a symbol<\/strong>, they said, something that had no real meaning\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Another day she made a second “mistake”: entering a Catholic church.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember that as soon as I crossed the threshold I was overwhelmed<\/strong>. Not only by the beauty of the place, but by a deep sense of holiness<\/strong>. I had never felt anything like that entering a Protestant church, which are more like coffee shops\u201d<\/i>. Instead, \u201cI felt the Real Presence of the Lord. And I thought: \u2018This church was not born yesterday. Here are centuries of history, of tradition\u2019\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Bible is not enough, now I rest in the truth\u201d<\/h2>\n

Catholics, Carrie says, have the community, the Eucharist and the Holy Spirit who guides the teaching authority in the line of apostolic succession, instituted by Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew the Bible\u201d<\/i>, adds the former Miss California, \u201cwe Protestants relied only on that, but it could not be enough<\/strong>. One also had to ask: who interprets Scripture? The pastor? And what are his credentials?\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n

In 2025<\/strong> Carrie Prejean Boller began the catechumenate that led her to baptism<\/strong> during the Easter Vigil.<\/p>\n
