The double investigation into the accusations against Prevost<\/strong> reveals that the victims were satisfied<\/strong> with his actions and began to accuse him after being manipulated by their lawyer, a former priest abuser<\/strong> who hates Leo XIV<\/i>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The cover-up accusations against the future Leo XIV<\/strong><\/mark> were directed at him not by the victims, but by their lawyer: a former priest abuser<\/strong> who harbors a longstanding grudge against the Pope.<\/p>\n And there\u2019s more: one of the victims, Ana Mar\u00eda Quispe D\u00edaz<\/strong>, stated yesterday that she initially had no complaint<\/strong> against Prevost and was satisfied with the meeting she had with him. Then everything changed when the lawyer arrived.<\/p>\n These are the two most explosive elements<\/strong> that emerged thanks to the investigations by “Crux”<\/i> and the “National Catholic Reporter”<\/i>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n But let\u2019s go slowly and understand the context.<\/p>\n On UCCR we have already discussed<\/a><\/em><\/strong> the accusations directed at then-bishop Robert Prevost<\/strong> when he led the diocese of Chiclayo (Peru)<\/strong> of not having properly handled the sexual abuse complaints of three sisters by two priests.<\/p>\n The victims claimed that the future Pope Leo XIV did not initiate a full canonical investigation<\/strong> and that the documentation sent to Rome was deliberately incomplete<\/strong> to hinder action.<\/p>\n The diocese of Chiclayo<\/strong> promptly rejected these accusations in December 2023<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, stating that Prevost personally met the victims, launched a canonical investigation and sent the complete results to the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.<\/p>\n This version has also been confirmed by major investigative journalists<\/a><\/em><\/strong> on abuses in Latin America, who also praised Prevost\u2019s swiftness<\/strong> and courage<\/strong> in intervening, as well as his role in the dissolution of the Peruvian institute “Sodalitium Christianae Vitae”<\/i><\/strong> (SCV) due to abuses within it.<\/p>\n The accusations resurfaced because some outlets brought them up during the March conclave<\/strong> in an attempt to hobble Leo\u2019s election, considered a progressive-leaning candidate.<\/p>\n In Italy Riccardo Cascioli<\/strong>, director of “La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana”<\/i>, even urged the cardinals<\/a><\/em><\/strong> not to elect Prevost because he was \u00abinvolved in sexual abuses\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n Not yet satisfied, in recent days Cascioli himself<\/strong> attacked<\/a><\/em><\/strong> Leo XIV<\/strong> again, supporting the victims\u2019 version about the lack of a diocesan inquiry: \u00abThis circumstance remains undocumentedly unrefuted<\/strong>\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n Why did he again ignore<\/strong> the prompt response provided by the diocese of Chiclayo?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Moreover, already since last April<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, Elise Ann Allen<\/strong> documented on “Crux”<\/i> that the lawyer Ricardo Coronado-Arrascue<\/strong><\/mark> was the one who steered the accusations of the three Peruvian sisters toward the future Leo XIV.<\/p>\n He is a former priest<\/strong>, a pro-conservative figure, laicized for sexual harassment<\/strong> (or in any case for a \u201ccrime against the sixth commandment\u201d), who nourishes a historic grudge<\/strong> against the current pontiff.<\/p>\n The journalist actually contacted some seminarians who trained under Coronado-Arrascue when he was a member of the Augustinians, who recount a pattern of sexually inappropriate<\/strong> and aggressive behavior toward adult seminarians under his supervision.<\/p>\n Furthermore, a connection<\/strong> has emerged between Coronado-Arrascue and the “Sodalitium Christianae Vitae”<\/i> (SCV), as a personal friend of many members and the founder Luis Fernando Figari, as well as a regular visitor<\/strong> of the institute where physical abuses occurred.<\/p>\n Back then these witnesses already claimed that Coronado-Arrascue\u2019s decision to publicly accuse Prevost of a cover-up was due to his role in the ousting of Bishop Jos\u00e9 Antonio Eguren<\/strong> from the SCV. They also said that the accusations brought by the three abused sisters did not involve Prevost<\/strong> until Coronado-Arrascue appeared as their defense attorney starting in May 2024.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Just yesterday, the “National Catholic Reporter”<\/i><\/a><\/strong><\/strong> confirmed Crux\u2019s investigation by directly interviewing one of the three Peruvian sisters, Ana Mar\u00eda Quispe D\u00edaz<\/strong><\/mark>.<\/p>\n The woman stated that she initially had no complaint<\/strong> against Prevost and, indeed, was pleased<\/strong> with her meeting with the future pope.<\/p>\n Only when Coronado-Arrascue<\/strong> volunteered to represent the sisters for free did they begin to accuse Prevost of a cover-up, turning the matter<\/strong> into a nationally famous case.<\/p>\n In hindsight, Quispe D\u00edaz says in the interview, she and her sisters suspect they were exploited<\/strong> mainly to counter Coronado-Arrascue\u2019s legal troubles. \u00abHe didn\u2019t really want to help us, we are convinced. We know he is involved in some mess\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n Regarding Prevost, the woman explained that she contacted him at the beginning of 2020 to report the groping she suffered from a priest of the diocese; because of the Covid-19 pandemic they spoke by phone and Prevost \u00abasked forgiveness on behalf of the Church, encouraged me<\/strong> to file a civil complaint and said he would go with me<\/strong> to file the complaint, if necessary\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n In April 2022 Quispe D\u00edaz, together with her sisters, physically met Robert Prevost in his office and the woman remembers the meeting as extremely positive<\/strong>. \u00abAt the moment Prevost spoke to us, we thought “Wow, he is listening to us”\u00bb<\/i>, she recounted.<\/p>\n Only in July 2024, two years later, were the three victims convinced<\/strong> by Coronado-Arrascue that Prevost had mishandled their case. \u00abHe was opening my eyes and at that moment I began to cry\u00bb<\/i>, confesses Ana Mar\u00eda Quispe D\u00edaz. From that moment on Prevost became the target<\/strong> of their accusations.<\/p>\n In particular, Coronado-Arrascue began to pressure the sisters so that they would further promote their accusations in the media<\/strong>, especially through the popular Peruvian program “Cuarto Poder”<\/strong>, which seized the opportunity to attack Prevost.<\/p>\n After the election to the papacy, the journalist who authored the piece, Sol Carre\u00f1o<\/strong>, retracted the accusations stating that the diocese of Chiclayo had not provided all the information in time about the measures taken in response to the abuse accusations. Adding: \u00abUnfortunately it seems that some people have taken advantage<\/strong> of these women\u2019s difficult situation to produce an alternative ending\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n Coronado-Arrascue is no longer the sisters\u2019 lawyer since August 2024 because the Peruvian bishops revoked<\/strong> his status as canonist due to the accusations of sexual abuse. The former priest rejects the accusations as false.<\/p>\n In September 2024 Coronado-Arrascue “handed” the case of the three sisters to the discredited U.S. network “Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests<\/strong>“<\/i> (SNAP) which still carries forward the same accusations<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
