She did not answer violence with more violence. And the birth of <strong>Patrick<\/strong> was the most beautiful thing that ever happened to her.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Claudia Cardinale, the rape and the non-abortion<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Born in Tunis in 1938 to a Sicilian family, Cardinale emerged in the Fifties and Sixties as an <strong>icon<\/strong>: she worked with directors of the caliber of Visconti, Fellini, Sergio Leone, and starred in films that became classics such as <em>The Leopard<\/em> and <em>Once Upon a Time in the West<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But behind the lights of the big screen lies <strong>a wound<\/strong> that remained secret for years: around the age of 16-17, a man in Tunisia raped her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She herself told about it in 2017 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.corriere.it\/esteri\/17_ottobre_15\/claudia-cardinalee-quegli-abusi-attricigiovanissima-fui-stuprata-1b115f16-b10f-11e7-8c8a-61b69bf57dc4.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to <i>Corriere della Sera<\/i><\/a><\/strong> with these words: <i>\u00abIt was <strong>terrible<\/strong>, but the most <strong>beautiful<\/strong> thing is that from that violence my wonderful Patrick was born\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cardinale indeed recounts that <i>\u00abalthough it was a very complicated situation for a single mother, I <strong>decided not to have an abortion<\/strong>. When that man learned of my pregnancy, he reappeared, demanding that I abort. Not for a moment did I think <b>of getting rid of my creature<\/b>!\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She found support in her <strong>parents<\/strong> and sister <strong>Blanche<\/strong> and <i>\u00abtogether we decided that <strong>my child<\/strong> would be raised within the family\u00bb<\/i>.
