Here\u2019s what historian <strong>Jacques Rouillard<\/strong> tells us.<\/i><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was May 2021 when <strong>Canada<\/strong> was hit by an apocalyptic announcement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>215 Indigenous children<\/strong> (215, exact!) were buried in a <strong>mass grave<\/strong> on the grounds of the former Catholic residential school of <strong>Kamloops<\/strong>. Thus began the story of the <mark><strong>mass graves in Canada<\/strong><\/mark> and more appeared everywhere.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shouted headlines, <strong>politicians on their knees<\/strong>, flags at half-mast for months, vigils, accusations of genocide, and dozens of churches set on fire in retaliation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today we know it was a <strong>hoax<\/strong> and most Canadians (and even Indigenous people themselves), according to <strong>a recent survey<\/strong>, are no longer willing to believe this story without proof.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The fake news of mass graves in Canada<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We have spoken <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uccronline.it\/tag\/scuole-residenziali-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">many times<\/a><\/em><\/strong> about the <strong>residential schools<\/strong> in Canada, immediately explaining the falsehood and highlighting the lack of even a single photograph of these so-called \u201cmass graves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then, quietly, <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uccronline.it\/2025\/06\/14\/il-canada-ferma-le-indagini-niente-prova-delle-fosse-comuni\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last June<\/a><\/em><\/strong> the Canadian government <strong>halted the searches<\/strong>: after 8 million spent, nothing was found, not even a bone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At best, they were <strong>ground anomalies<\/strong> creatively interpreted (likely under the influence of <em>anti-Catholic bias<\/em> and the sacralization of minorities following the <em><strong>woke culture<\/strong><\/em>). Thus Canadian media began to <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uccronline.it\/2024\/11\/21\/canada-scuole-residenziali-lorrore-inventato-dai-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">call it<\/a><\/em><\/strong> the greatest <strong>hate hoax<\/strong> of all time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But the narrative of the <b>\u201cresidential school mass graves\u201d<\/b> spread so widely that most still believe the horror story told. The last to fall for it <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uccronline.it\/2025\/07\/16\/milena-gabanelli-si-inchina-alla-cultura-woke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was<\/a><\/em><\/strong> even an experienced journalist, <strong>Milena Gabanelli<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Canadians tired of believing without proof<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But today something is shifting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In May 2024 Canadian columnist <strong>Terry Glavin<\/strong> wrote in the <em>National Post<\/em> <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/opinion\/terry-glavin-canada-slowly-acknowledging-there-never-was-a-mass-grave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that<\/a><\/em><\/strong> <em>\u201cCanada is slowly acknowledging there never was a \u2018mass grave.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Indeed, according to <mark><strong>a survey<\/strong><\/mark> published on August 14 by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/angusreid.org\/indigenous-residential-schools-kamloops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Angus Reid Institute<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, <strong>63% of Canadians<\/strong> and even <strong>56%<\/strong> of Indigenous Canadians themselves are no longer willing to take the mass graves story at face value.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-128089\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uccronline.it\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/canada-mass-grave.webp\" alt=\"canada residential schools survey\" width=\"813\" height=\"689\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><i>\u201cTo date\u201d<\/i>, it reads, <i>\u201c<strong>no human remains<\/strong> have been confirmed or exhumed and the suspected anomalies remain unverified.\u201d<\/i> The majority want <strong>serious evidence<\/strong>, exhumations, forensic data. In other words: if there really are graves\u2014at Kamloops or elsewhere\u2014prove it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is a significant figure considering that in Canada it had become for years <strong>a top national issue<\/strong>, so much so that those who dared to raise doubts or ask for verification were accused of <strong>denialism<\/strong> and often fired. Some even proposed laws to criminally punish those who dared to doubt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The recent survey also covered this, and once again, fortunately, <strong>62% of Canadians<\/strong> have no intention of turning opinion into a crime. Fewer than three in ten today would force <strong>resignations<\/strong> of professors, high school teachers, or lawyers who raise doubts about genocide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And among the <strong>Indigenous<\/strong> interviewed, <strong>45%<\/strong> said they were opposed to criminalizing denial (versus 42%).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The scholar\u2019s satisfaction<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>UCCR<\/strong> submitted the survey to <strong><mark>Jacques Rouillard<\/mark><\/strong>, professor of History at the University of Montreal and one of the top specialists on residential schools.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With satisfaction, he pointed out that finally <i>\u201cthere is a <strong>clear gap<\/strong> in Canadian public opinion regarding the narrative pushed by Indigenous leaders in recent decades.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In fact, Rouillard confirms, <i>\u201cit had reached the point where there was a demand for the government to <strong>criminalize<\/strong> those who downplay the historical impact of residential schools, but the survey shows that <strong>the majority of Canadians<\/strong> are against it. I strongly doubt, therefore, that such a law could be passed in the current context.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, the historian concludes, people have understood that <i>\u201c<strong>evidence is needed<\/strong> before making criminal accusations against the Kamloops school administration, something the media forgot.\u201d<\/i> Canadians, he adds, have until now lived <i>\u201cin <strong>shame<\/strong> for the alleged treatment inflicted on Indigenous people.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We had already interviewed Rouillard <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uccronline.it\/eng\/2022\/04\/05\/canadian-historian-no-indigenous-killed-in-catholic-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in 2022<\/a><\/em><\/strong> and he explained to us the details of the \u201cgenocide operation,\u201d namely the <strong>million-dollar compensation<\/strong> sought by the <i>Conseil de bande<\/i> (the local representatives of Indigenous people).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Canadian historian also points out that even <strong>Rosanne Casimir<\/strong>, leader of the Canadian Indigenous, revised the version of events in 2024, no longer referring to the \u201cconfirmation of the remains of 215 children\u201d and only evoking the presence of \u201cunmarked graves,\u201d <strong>completely forgetting<\/strong> the notion of a mass grave.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The investigation that disproves cultural genocide<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The controversial issue remains that of <strong>\u201ccultural genocide.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As many as two-thirds (<strong>68%<\/strong>) of Canadians in the recent survey still claim that a form of cultural genocide occurred, 23% disagree or strongly disagree. <strong>54%<\/strong> say the damage persists today while <b>46%<\/b> ask to focus less on the issue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Clearly, media narrative and the influence of former Prime Minister <strong>Justin Trudeau<\/strong> are still strong, as seen in the fact that the majority in Canada <strong>vastly overestimate<\/strong> the percentage of children who attended residential schools, putting it at <strong>60%<\/strong> or more.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This refers to the <strong>transformation of Indigenous values<\/strong>, the teaching of English instead of their language, and the tools \u201cinstilled\u201d in them to <strong>integrate<\/strong> into Western society.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Canadian bishops<\/strong> persuaded <strong>Pope Francis<\/strong> to undertake a \u201creconciliation\u201d trip to Canada to show repentance for the \u201cideological colonization\u201d carried out in schools to \u201cre-educate\u201d Indigenous people according to Western standards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But from the research conducted by <strong>Jacques Rouillard<\/strong>, as he tells us, it emerges that <strong>3 Indigenous people<\/strong> were teaching at the Kamloops residential school in the 1960s, and as many as <strong>23<\/strong> in 1963 according to government reports (by 1970 they would likely reach thirty, then management passed entirely to the State).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Should we then conclude that the so-called <strong>\u201ccultural genocide\u201d<\/strong> would have been perpetrated by Indigenous teachers themselves or with their consent?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The historian also tells us that the residential schools, created starting in 1883, arose <i>\u201cfollowing the <strong>request of the Indigenous communities themselves<\/strong>, in 11 treaties signed between 1871 and 1911.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Indigenous people themselves indeed <strong>aspired<\/strong> to adapt <i>\u201cto the new agricultural and industrial economy developing around them, to learn to read, to write in English or French, and to count. The <strong>Indigenous languages<\/strong> were spoken, but neither written nor read.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Moreover, by consulting the memoranda sent to the federal government in 1948 and 1969, he discovered that <strong>Indigenous associations<\/strong> have always had <i>\u201c<strong>a positive image<\/strong> of Western education and residential schools\u201d<\/i>, and likewise <i>\u201cthe \u2018Assembl\u00e9e des Premi\u00e8res Nations\u2019 in its memorandum to the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples in 1993\u201d<\/i>, when the <strong>media demonization<\/strong> of residential schools began.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Residential schools, from suggestion to evidence<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We agree with Prof. Rouillard who <strong>will send us his work<\/strong> as soon as he finishes the study he is drafting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The positive fact remains that today, Indigenous people themselves and the majority of Canadians <strong>are no longer willing<\/strong> to kneel before a hoax and prefer the truth, marking the shift from <strong>emotional suggestion<\/strong> to the demand for real evidence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Perhaps, more than \u201creconciliation,\u201d Canada feels the need for <strong>a healthy dose of reality<\/strong> after being blinded by the thirst for blame and the ideological rewriting of its own history.<\/p>\n<p>title (title case): <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A survey on the opinions of the Canadian people and Indigenous themselves about residential schools and mass graves in Canada.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":61945,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"iawp_total_views":289,"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[1385,1817,1779,1818,1816,1778,1386],"class_list":["post-61944","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-canada-mass-graves","tag-canada-residential-schools","tag-canadian-residential-schools","tag-jacques-rouillard","tag-mass-grave-canada","tag-mass-graves-canada","tag-residential-schools"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.6 -
