A new study finds double the risk of hospitalization for <strong>psychiatric problems<\/strong> compared to childbirth.<\/i><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A significant link between <mark><strong>abortion, mental health<\/strong><\/mark>, and psychiatric hospitalization, according to a new analysis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the <strong><i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0022395625003309?via%3Dihub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Journal of Psychiatric Research<\/a><\/i><\/strong>, it is reported that women who undergo a voluntary termination of pregnancy also have <strong>twice the likelihood<\/strong> of being hospitalized for mental health reasons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A study that not only highlights once again the links between <strong>abortion and women&#8217;s mental health<\/strong>, but also refutes <i>&#8220;pro-choice&#8221;<\/i> advocates and feminists who claim that having an abortion is as simple as drinking a glass of water.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Feminists who downplay abortion<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is more or less the thesis of the Italian feminist <strong>Federica di Martino<\/strong>, psychotherapist and founder of the blog <em>&#8220;IVG sto benissimo&#8221;<\/em>, <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.giornalettismo.com\/ho-abortito-e-sto-benissimo-blog-stigma-interruzione-di-gravidanza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to whom<\/a><\/em><\/strong> abortion is <i>\u00aba life experience\u00bb<\/i>, far from suffering. Moreover, di Martino adds, quoting her hallmark, <i>\u00ab<strong>post-abortion trauma<\/strong> is absolutely not scientifically proven, on the contrary\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Di Martino was also a guest two years ago on the podcast of comedian <strong>Laura Formenti<\/strong> (see photo) where, together, they <strong>giggled for half an hour<\/strong> about abortion, mocking women who talk about it as trauma.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But on one side there are the opinions of feminists, and on the other <strong>the objective data<\/strong> that we present today, once again.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The study: abortion doubles psychiatric hospitalizations<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>new research<\/strong> shows that the abortion experience leaves such a mark that it makes many women susceptible to <strong>serious mental disorders<\/strong>, to the point of requiring hospitalization.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was conducted using data from hospitals in Quebec and Canada, between 2006 and 2022, and included over <strong>1.2 million pregnancies<\/strong> up to 17 years after the end of the pregnancy (natural or via abortion) to identify mental health-related hospitalizations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The results showed that rates of hospitalization for <strong>psychiatric reasons<\/strong> were higher after induced abortion compared to pregnancy (104.0 vs. 42.0 per 10,000 person-years), and links were also found with <strong>substance use disorders<\/strong> and <strong>suicide attempts<\/strong>, again far higher than in women who chose not to abort.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The association between voluntary termination of pregnancy and psychiatric hospitalizations was therefore <strong>highly significant<\/strong> especially within 5 years, after which the strength of the link tended to decrease over time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Previous studies and the UCCR dossier<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A finding that is reinforced by <strong>previously published studies<\/strong> conducted in different contexts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In Germany, in 2023, <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dovepress.com\/a-cohort-study-of-mental-health-services-utilization-following-a-first-peer-reviewed-fulltext-article-IJWH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it emerged<\/a><\/em><\/strong> for example that abortion, compared to childbirth, was associated with an increased risk of <strong>psychiatric conditions<\/strong> such as depression, adjustment disorders, and somatoform disorders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These studies are included in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uccronline.it\/2010\/04\/22\/la-sindrome-post-aborto-cose-e-cosa-dice-la-scienza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">detailed dossier<\/a><\/strong> published on our website regarding <strong>Post-Abortion Syndrome<\/strong>, in which we collected all scientific research confirming all <strong>post-traumatic stress disorders<\/strong> linked to termination of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite claims to the contrary, abortion is never a neutral event, and the <strong>mental health consequences<\/strong> deserve concrete attention.
