SNAP<\/strong> smells business and strikes back.<\/p>\n

For those who may have forgotten, shortly before the appointment of Leo XIV<\/strong>, some traditionalist newspapers (in Italy “La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana”<\/i>) uncritically relayed<\/a><\/em><\/strong> the accusations of “Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests”<\/strong><\/mark><\/i> (SNAP) against Cardinal Prevost.<\/p>\n

They actually tried to prevent his election<\/strong> to the papal throne because he was considered too aligned with his predecessor.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Who SNAP is and why it is unreliable<\/h2>\n

But first of all, who is SNAP<\/strong> and why is it unacceptable?<\/p>\n

SNAP<\/strong> is a U.S.-based organization that, on paper, should defend victims of sexual abuse by Catholic priests but, in reality, it is a politicized entity<\/strong> with a clear anti-Catholic bias, whose accusations have often proven false.<\/p>\n

In 2016, for example, SNAP was legally sanctioned<\/strong> when a conspiracy against a priest falsely accused of sexual abuse came to light. But the false accusations<\/strong> continued over the years, ruining the reputation of many priests and forcing SNAP to issue belated apologies<\/strong>. The latest case was in 2019<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The so-called “victim advocacy” group was also found to publish<\/a><\/em><\/strong> private phone numbers and emails of priests simply accused (not convicted) of abuse, urging members to harass them relentlessly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A judge banned<\/a><\/em><\/strong> SNAP from disturbing the faithful<\/strong> during Mass, stopping a practice that was spreading in Missouri.<\/p>\n

In 2017, a SNAP employee, Gretchen Rachel Hammond<\/strong>, even sued the group for collusion with attorneys representing victims, exposing the financial interests and kickbacks received by SNAP in the exploitation of victims<\/strong>, as well as the group’s lack of genuine concern for their protection.<\/p>\n

As a result, SNAP’s founder, Barbara Blaine<\/strong>, was forced to resign<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, followed<\/a><\/em><\/strong> shortly after by the national director, David Clohessy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In these circumstances, several emails from SNAP officials also emerged, in which victims were urged to bankrupt<\/strong> Catholic dioceses to compromise ethical pronouncements on homosexuality, contraception, and abortion.<\/p>\n

One of SNAP’s major collaborators, Dr. Steve Taylor<\/strong>, was also arrested for possession of child pornography<\/strong>, yet he was defended and covered<\/strong> by the group itself, which asked to \u201cturn a blind eye\u201d in the name of his positive career. We documented the case in detail in this article<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Returning to Leo XIV<\/strong> and the present day, SNAP believes he did not adequately address the abuse allegations concerning Ana Mar\u00eda Quispe D\u00edaz<\/strong> during his time as bishop of Chiclayo, Peru.<\/p>\n

A few days ago, the group revived the accusations by bringing Ana Mar\u00eda Quispe D\u00edaz to Chicago<\/strong>, Leo’s hometown, and organizing a press conference.<\/p>\n

Highlighting SNAP’s unreliability is the fact that the Spanish words<\/strong> spoken by the woman were translated<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by SNAP with serious errors, altering<\/strong> the meaning of her sentences.<\/p>\n

An element that raises doubts about the group’s credibility<\/strong> in presenting victims’ testimonies.<\/p>\n

SNAP and the False Accusations Against Leo XIV<\/h2>\n

The cases of priests Eleuterio V\u00e1squez Gonz\u00e1les<\/strong> and Ricardo Yesqu\u00e9n Paiva<\/strong>, guilty of abuse against Ana Mar\u00eda Quispe D\u00edaz and other young women, have been cited.<\/p>\n

But the diocese of Chiclayo<\/strong> has already documented<\/a><\/em><\/strong> that Prevost followed canonical procedures, initiating a preliminary investigation and imposing ministerial restrictions on the accused priests. Furthermore, he encouraged the victims<\/strong> to turn to civil authorities for further action.<\/p>\n

This information has been confirmed<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by investigative journalists covering sexual abuse in Latin America, particularly Rodolfo Soriano Nu\u00f1ez, Pedro Salinas, and Paola Ugaz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ugaz herself commented<\/a><\/em><\/strong> on SNAP’s recent press conference, explaining that Prevost not only urged<\/strong> the victim to approach civil authorities, but also personally sent<\/strong> the case to the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith in the Vatican, demonstrating that he took it seriously and was intent on protecting the woman.<\/p>\n

Prevost also played a decisive role in convincing Pope Francis<\/strong> to suppress the Peruvian group Sodalitium Christianae Vitae<\/strong><\/i>, within which several abusers were hiding.<\/p>\n

It has also been observed<\/a><\/em><\/strong> that \u00abSNAP did not contact<\/strong> the victims of the “Sodalitium” and did not include their praise for Leo in its communications\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Evidently, SNAP’s actions are no longer about commendable<\/strong> victim protection, but about a business<\/strong> that feeds on controversy, money (from victims and potential compensations), and a one-sided narrative, often far from the truth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
