Too often we let ourselves get swept up in <strong>waves of enthusiasm<\/strong>, only to discover that sociological phenomena follow strange and contradictory paths.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Still, it must be acknowledged that <strong>some signs are indeed there<\/strong>\u2014signs that were absent before\u2014so there are grounds for hope that France, once known as the \u201celdest daughter of the Church\u201d and later as the homeland of <strong>militant secularism<\/strong>, may be entering a new phase of spiritual renewal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h2>Jubilee of Youth: Surge in French Registrations<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The latest sign comes from registrations for the upcoming <strong><mark>Jubilee of Youth<\/strong><\/mark>, which will bring one million pilgrims to Rome between July and August.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>French youth<\/strong> have shown a remarkable level of interest: an estimated <strong>25,000<\/strong> are expected to attend the event, surpassing even the <strong>20,000<\/strong> young pilgrims expected from <strong>Poland<\/strong>, one of the world\u2019s most Catholic countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Granted, one must also consider the <strong>geographical proximity<\/strong> of the two countries to Rome, but the figure remains striking nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h2>Numbers Rising in France, Including Catechumens<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In recent times, there has also been a <strong>record turnout<\/strong> for the traditional <strong>pilgrimage march from Paris to Chartres<\/strong>, a growing number of students making pilgrimages to <strong>Lourdes<\/strong>, packed churches during <strong>Lent<\/strong>, and increasing demand for Bibles and spiritual retreats in monasteries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Most notably, there has been a dramatic rise in <strong>adult baptisms<\/strong>: at Easter <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bfmtv.com\/societe\/religions\/paques-le-nombre-de-baptemes-en-forte-hausse-en-2024-notamment-chez-les-jeunes-et-les-ados_AV-202403290367.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2024<\/a><\/em><\/strong> there were <strong>7,135 adults<\/strong> baptized (+31% compared to 2023), and at Easter <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/catechese.catholique.fr\/actualites-initiatives\/actualites\/337217-enquete-du-catechumenat-qui-sont-les-adultes-baptises-a-paques-en-2024-2\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2025<\/a><\/em><\/strong> the figure rose to <strong>10,384<\/strong>\u2014an increase of +45% and +60% compared to the 3,900 baptisms recorded in 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-126477\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uccronline.it\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Jubilee-of-Youth-2025.png\" alt=\"Jubilee of Youth 2025\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another telling sign emerged just <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uccronline.it\/2025\/07\/05\/i-paesi-che-hanno-donato-di-piu-al-papa-negli-ultimi-anni\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a few days ago<\/a><\/em><\/strong> with the publication of figures for the <strong>Peter\u2019s Pence<\/strong> collection, the mechanism through which the faithful contribute to the Pope\u2019s charitable work and to supporting the operations of the Holy See.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In <strong>France<\/strong>, donations skyrocketed from <strong>\u20ac1 million<\/strong> in 2023 to <strong>\u20ac8 million<\/strong> in 2024\u2014an astonishing <strong>700% increase<\/strong>! Some attribute the surge to the large number of Ukrainians welcomed by the French, but the magnitude of the growth suggests there\u2019s more to the story.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Returning to the <strong>Jubilee of Youth<\/strong>: in Rome, French pilgrims won\u2019t just be present in large numbers\u2014they\u2019ll also bring <strong>their own identity<\/strong>, complete with an official hymn titled \u201cG\u00e9n\u00e9ration Jubil\u00e9,\u201d which will serve as the soundtrack to their community and witness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Whether or not <strong>a religious awakening<\/strong> is truly underway in the land of Voltaire remains to be seen.
