Also this year, during the Easter Vigil<\/strong>, thousands of adults will be baptized<\/strong><\/mark> all over the world determined to belong to the Catholic Church.<\/i><\/p>\n

It has been centuries since Voltaire <\/strong> stated that Christianity would soon fade.<\/p>\n

Not only were they wrong, but the Christian people seem to enjoy good health <\/strong>, albeit perhaps in the form of a smaller but more aware Church.<\/p>\n

This increased awareness is demonstrated by thousands of adults<\/mark> <\/strong> who again this year (as in the previous years <\/a> <\/em>) have asked to be welcomed into the Catholic Church <\/strong>.<\/p>\n

US parishes are the most “technological” and present on the web, so much of the data we tracked comes from there. <\/p>\n

\n

New catechumens in the world, starting from the West.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

n Kentucky <\/strong>, for example, Archbishop Joseph E. Kurz, presiding over the annual Rite of Election, preached<\/em><\/a> to more than 300 people<\/strong>, between catechumens at the end of the path that will lead them to baptism and various candidates (people validly baptized outside the Catholic Church). <\/p>\n

Similarly, in Boston<\/strong> more than 200 <\/strong> catechumens took part <\/em><\/a> in the Rite of Election, expressing their desire to be baptized. A Rochester <\/strong> (in the state of New York) are preparing<\/a><\/em> for baptism over 100 <\/strong> candidates and adult catechumens while future adult Catholics are<\/a><\/em> 574 <\/strong> in the only city of Detroit (Michigan). <\/p>\n

In New York <\/strong>, in a single archdiocese (that of St. Patrick), 220 <\/strong> catechumens (13 of whom are very young, aged 7 to 13) will become Catholics, to whom he addressed recently<\/a><\/em> card. Timothy Dolan thanking them \u00abfor the inspiration you give me\u00bb<\/i> and welcoming them.<\/p>\n

Also in the United States, in Texas <\/strong>, during the Easter vigil on April 16, 1.652<\/strong> adults from the parishes of the archdiocese of Galveston-Houston will become<\/a><\/em> Catholics. About 245 <\/strong> of them are very young candidates or catechumens.<\/p>\n

In Tennessee <\/strong>, over 100 adults <\/strong> from 25 diocesan churches are preparing<\/a><\/em> for baptism while in the city of South Bend <\/strong> (Indiana) alone, 174 <\/strong> adults will be baptized<\/a><\/em> during the Easter Mass. <\/p>\n

In the city of Miami <\/strong> (Florida) alone, Archbishop Thomas Wenski has recently completed<\/a><\/em> the approach to baptism for over 350 <\/strong> adults and, also in Florida, the diocese of Venice is ready to welcome<\/a><\/em> over 400 <\/strong> adults. At Arlington, Virginia, there will be<\/a><\/em> 149 catechumens<\/strong> who will be baptized at Easter.<\/p>\n

A small record for Portland <\/strong> (the capital of Oregon), where 80 <\/strong> adult catechumens will publicly express<\/a><\/em> their wish for baptism to the bishop, the highest number since 2008.<\/p>\n

If we move to France <\/strong>, it will be 65 <\/strong> adults (35 adolescents and 30 adults) who will receive<\/a><\/em> Catholic baptism in the St-Pierre cathedral of the city of Rennes<\/strong>. In the municipality of Auray<\/strong> (Morbihan), on the other hand, 42 <\/strong> adult catechumens will be welcomed<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

In the French capital, Paris, <\/strong> the apostolic administrator Georges Pontier will administer<\/a><\/em> baptism to 351 adults <\/strong> aged between 18 and 81.<\/p>\n

Over 200 <\/strong> baptismal candidates are reported<\/a><\/em> in Austria <\/strong>, a sharp increase compared to last year.<\/p>\n

Although this is a lower figure, it is nevertheless encouraging that the baptism of another 12 adults <\/strong> for the next Easter Vigil is also expected<\/a><\/em> in Malta <\/strong>.<\/p>\n

These are just some but significant examples <\/strong> which can however give an idea of how many thousands of people around the world have taken the event of Christ and ask to formalize the embrace of the Church. <\/p>\n

The young age of the baptized: from 18 to 40 years.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

An interesting fact is also the age of catechumens <\/strong> and candidates: most of them, at least in the United States, are between 18 and 40 years <\/strong>, given surprising in light of the number of young people who leave the Church.<\/p>\n

The reasons for these \u201cbucking\u201d accessions are summarized<\/a><\/em> by the card <\/strong>. O \u2019Malley <\/strong>:” By inscribing your names in the Book of the Chosen, you are saying that you aspire to live a life of friendship with the Lord. “Holy” simply means friend of the Lord. What a beautiful description of the meaning of holiness. Baptism makes us friends of God <\/em> \u00bb.<\/p>\n

All men are called to this friendship (cf. Mt 28,19 and 1Tm 2,4<\/em>), although giving one’s unconditional yes to Christ can be difficult.<\/p>\n

One such catechumens, Beth Vetter <\/strong>, from Kentucky urges<\/a><\/em> anyone who wishes to be welcomed into the Church to follow this call, however difficult it may seem: \u201c Do not be frightened by the path of initiation. It is a process, but still a path of personal conversion<\/em>\u00bb.<\/p>\n

From all these experiences there is certainly much to learn <\/strong>, even for those already baptized.<\/p>\n

As explained<\/em><\/a> by card. O\u2019Malley, the conversion “ does not end with our baptism. As Catholics, we believe that conversion is our life’s work <\/strong>. Our earthly pilgrimage must always be experienced as a continuous orientation towards God and therefore as a continuous distancing from sin <\/em> \u00bb.<\/p>\n

It is therefore a radical call <\/strong>, which challenges man today as yesterday and of which many catechumens remind us this year as well with their yes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
