What is said of the Catholic inquisitorial courts is largely false: few sentences, no oppressive system, little use of torture.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-right: 20%; padding-left: 20%; text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The publication of our dossiers starts again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This year will be particularly dedicated to the <strong><mark>Inquisition<\/mark><\/strong> or, better, to the inquisitions, the <strong>medieval<\/strong> (from the 12th to the 14th century), the <strong >Roman<\/strong> (from 1542 to 1965) and the <strong>Spanish<\/strong> Inquisition (from 1478 to 1834), the latter totally dependent on the Crown and often in antagonism to the Church of Rome.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>goal<\/strong> is to bring to light the results of decades of historical studies that openly contrast with the <strong>myth and anti-Catholic prejudice<\/strong> born in Enlightenment and Protestant circles with the aim of representing the inquisitorial court as a symbol of Roman <strong>religious obscurantism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h2>No to the black legend, but not even to the white one.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today we publish <strong>the first dossier<\/strong> (link below), in which we have simply collected, and will continue to collect, the conclusive judgments of the <strong>main international specialists<\/strong> on the Inquisition and the black legend which even today prevents the results of modern historiography from leaving academic circles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Attention, none of the dozens of historians cited (with relative bibliographic source, just click on the number at the end of the quotation) has the slightest intention of opposing a <strong>&#8220;white or pink legend&#8221;<\/strong>, indeed they all agree that it was of a <i>left<\/i> initiative, intolerant of forms of dissent and, as the historian <strong>Andrea Del Col<\/strong> writes, <i>\u00abthe <strong>few<\/strong> killings of heretics, made in the name of God for reasons related to the defense of the Christian faith, even if carried out legally, we consider them <strong>aberrant<\/strong>\u00bb<\/i><sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"1\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"000000000000321e0000000000000000_1679\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-000000000000321e0000000000000000_1679-1\">1<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-000000000000321e0000000000000000_1679-1\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"1\"><b>Andrea Del Col<\/b>, <i>L&#8217;Inquisizione in Italia. The inquisitors <i>\u00abwere reluctant to impose capital punishment, generally preferring <strong>milder sentences<\/strong>\u00bb<\/i><sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"4\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"000000000000321e0000000000000000_1679\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-000000000000321e0000000000000000_1679-4\">4<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-000000000000321e0000000000000000_1679-4\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"4\"><b>Marina Montesano<\/b>, <i>Superstizioni dell&#8217;et\u00e0 moderna<\/i>, <i>Il Manifesto<\/i>, 31\/12\/2011<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If, in the light of modern studies, one tries to compare the work of the Catholic Inquisition to that of the <strong>secular courts<\/strong> of the time, to what happened in the <strong> Protestant countries <\/strong>, all epoch of Terror in which the <strong> French Revolution <\/strong> imploded, the crimes of <strong> scientist eugenics <\/strong>, the bloody dictatorships (largely atheist) of the <strong> twentieth century <\/strong> and as is happening <strong> still <\/strong> in various parts of the world, the image of those inquisitors concerned about the salvation of souls runs the risk of being illuminated with their own light.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In fact, there were not only the <b> 1,250 people <\/b><sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"5\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"000000000000321e0000000000000000_1679\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-000000000000321e0000000000000000_1679-5\">5<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-000000000000321e0000000000000000_1679-5\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"5\"><b>Andrea Del Col<\/b>, <i>L\u2019Inquisizione in Italia.
