The modification on \u201ctemptation\u201d dates back to 2008"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/new.uccronline.it\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/lordprayer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1347\" src=\"https:\/\/new.uccronline.it\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/lordprayer-300x185.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"272\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a>\u00ab<em>The <strong>\u201cOur Father\u201d<\/strong> is not the one of Pope <strong>Benedict XVI<\/strong>. God does not lead us into temptation!! Benedict XVI was fooled by the Devil<\/em>\u00bb. We <em><a href=\"https:\/\/new.uccronline.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/la-voce-di-fiore.jpg\">read<\/a><\/em> this on November 2007 on <strong>traditionalist websites<\/strong>, when Jorge Mario Bergoglio was a \u201csimple\u201d Argentinian Archbishop.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But, at that time, these people were an isolated voice, lacking \u2013 contrary to nowadays \u2013 the mediatic support of the <strong>religious right wind<\/strong> (or, better, \u201cdivine\u201d right wing, as Camillo Langone calls it). The latter is accusing Francis of <strong>being willing to change the <em>Pater Noster<\/em><\/strong>, but they ignore that the form \u201cdo not abandon us in temptation\u201d was introduced in 2008.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is the task of theologians \u2013 not ours \u2013 to evaluate the matter of the opportuneness or not of a <strong>better translation<\/strong> of the prayer taught by Jesus in the Gospels. Simply, we want to show how <strong>self-proclaimed Ratzingerians<\/strong> whose existential mission is the war against the Pontiff in charge \u2013 on any topic \u2013 find themselves fight even against <strong>Benedict XVI<\/strong>. \u00ab<em>The Our Father will be modified and <strong>edulcorated<\/strong><\/em>\u00bb \u2013<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/new.uccronline.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Tosatti-padre-nostro.jpg\">has recently denounced<\/a><\/em>, for example, journalist <strong>Marco Tosatti<\/strong>, leader of the \u201canti-Bergoglian resistance\u201d. \u00ab<em>With this <strong>effrontery<\/strong>, one dares to tamper with a two-thousand-year-old text? In Germany, even atheists objected to the new translation, supported by Bergoglio<\/em>\u00bb. But not by the Pope Emeritus, under whom it was born and approved of.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From these criticisms \u2013 shared also by many others and not peculiar only to our friend Tosatti \u2013 <strong>a serious journalistic lack of preparation<\/strong> and a poor familiarity with the Gospels emerge. Indeed, it is since the translation by the Italian Episcopal Conference published in <strong>2008<\/strong> by the Vatican Publishing House, with the placet of Benedict XVI, that the so much discussed modification of Scripture has been authorised: \u00abThe choice of the Permanent Council was to intervene only if it had really been absolutely necessary for the correctness of the translation\u00bb s \u2013 <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/news_services\/or\/or_quo\/interviste\/2008\/121q04a1.html\">explained<\/a><\/em> <strong>Msgr.<\/strong> <strong>Giuseppe Betori<\/strong>,\u00a0the then secretary of the Italian Episcopal Conference. \u00ab<em>In the case of the \u201cOur Father\u201d, the idea was consolidated that it was now urgent to correct <strong>the \u201cdo not lead us\u201d<\/strong>, currently intended in Italian as \u201cdo not constrain us\u201d. The Latin inducere (or the Greek eisferein) does not, in fact, mean \u201cconstraining\u201d, but \u201cguiding towards\u201d, \u201cguiding in\u201d, \u201cintroducing into\u201d and does not have that connotation of obligatoriness and constraint that the verb \u201cindurre\u201d [lead] has taken on in Italian, so as to project it [this connotation] inside today\u2019s formulation of the \u201cOur Father\u201d and to give God a responsibility \u2013 in \u201cleading\u201d us into temptation \u2013 which <strong>is<\/strong> <strong>not theologically founded<\/strong>. That is why we have then chosen the translation <strong>\u201cdo not abandon us in\u201d<\/strong>, which has a double meaning: \u201cdo not allow us to enter temptation\u201d, but also \u201cdo not leave us alone when we are tempted\u201d<\/em>\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We were on <strong>May 2008<\/strong>. Ten years later, today\u2019s Pontiff introduces the same modification into the liturgy as well. <em><a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/it\/speeches\/2018\/august\/documents\/papa-francesco_20180811_giovani-italiani.html\">Few days ago<\/a><\/em>, Francis recalled indeed the concept: \u00ab<em>In the prayer of the \u201cOur Father\u201d (cf. Mt 6:13) there is a request: <strong>\u201cDo not lead us into temptation\u201d<\/strong>. This Italian translation has been recently adjusted to the precise translation of the original text, because it could sound equivocal. Can God \u201clead\u201d us into temptation? Can He deceive His children? Of course, not. And, for this reason, the real translation is: <strong>\u201cDo not lead us into temptation\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Heaven forbid! The <strong>self-styled Catholic \u201ccompasses\u201d<\/strong>, silent when the modification occurred at the time of Ratzinger, found the new pretext to condemn again the Pope as a heretic: Bergoglio dares to change the word of Jesus. A surprise, instead, on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.secoloditalia.it\/2017\/12\/il-papa-e-il-padre-nostro-ma-le-correzioni-le-aveva-gia-fatte-la-cei-al-tempo-di-ratzinger\/\"><em>Secolo d\u2019Italia<\/em><\/a>:\u00a0\u00ab<em>The Pope and the Our Father: but the corrections had already been made by the Italian Episcopal Conference at the time of Ratzinger<\/em>\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Editorial staff<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Our Father text,  lead us not into temptation or do not abandon us in?
